A great homemade hamburger recipe for your next BBQ!
My husband Mark and I are embarking on new journey – to become full time RV’ers by next summer.
Actually Mark is full time and I am working for one more year. It will all go by so fast.
So this blog post is all about how to make a great homemade hamburger and this recipe is one that Mark created just this past weekend. We pretty much split up the kitchen into two camps. I’m the Baker and he’s the Chef, so I’ll let him tell it…
Our family and friends often ask me how to make a great burger for the BBQ Grill. My burgers are famous!
Well, the essence of this homemade hamburger recipe is the combination of the turkey, beef and pork that triples both the flavor and juicy tenderness that we all love in a good burger.
When choosing ground beef, I use lean or medium cuts — you need a little fat to make the burgers tender. In addition to the ground beef, I included turkey and pork. Three 500 gram/1 lb. packages will yield eight well sized burgers.
Aug 30, 2017 … An 80-percent lean, 20-percent fat ratio is Flay’s choice for burger patties, because of the relatively high fat content—it guarantees you’ll get a juicy burger. As TODAY’s Matt Lauer points out, the blend is not exactly diet-friendly, but the chef says it’s the worth the occasional splurge: “To me, if you’re going to …
I don’t measure ingredients, so I have listed them by name only. The fun part about cooking is experimenting with flavors and amounts until you get the “yummmm” factor. (Note: Mark cooks by taste and touch – so I’ve added the measurements to this recipe)
How To Make A Great Burger – Ingredients and Instructions!
Into a large bowl, combine the meat (s) until they are thoroughly mixed. Using a potato masher helps speed up the process.
Add the following spices to taste: *
1 tbsp each of Salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, Herbs de Provence (rosemary, marjoram, thyme and savory)
Mix everything together and shape into patties. You will get 8 burgers from this recipe.
Make sure your barbecue grill is smoking hot. You won’t have to worry about burning the burgers because the combination of meats prevents this from happening.
Grill until almost done, then add our famous Best BBQ Sauce and cook until the sauce is caramelized.

**This sauce is made by two former neighbours, Sabrina and Diane in Bowmanville, ON, Canada. The base for the sauce is Jamaican scotch bonnet peppers with black and yellow mustard seeds. I will warn you that if you’re not familiar with scotch bonnet peppers you can substitute tabasco or any other hot sauce. You can find it at www.sohotsauce.com
This simple and delicious recipe for easy creamy coleslaw is packed with flavor and uses only 5 ingredients! A staple at family BBQ’s, potlucksand church suppers, this creamy coleslaw recipe will give you everything you need and more!
Coleslaw can take many forms but the tangy sweetness in this recipe is always great with outdoor BBQ, smoked meat and our slow cooker pulled pork. It comes together in minutes and you can serve it again the next day.
I’ve been making this best creamy coleslaw recipe for friends and family for so many years I’ve lost count!
In fact, when I first started to make it, I was working in my parents’ catering business. And everyone of those banquets needed a ton of coleslaw! Back then we didn’t use a food processor – we would ask our wholesaler to shred the cabbage and carrots for us and we would then chop it much more finely, with all of the onion. By. Hand.
Now there are lots of creamy coleslaw recipes, some are quite tart and have a strong vinegar base to them. But if creamy coleslaw dressing is what you crave, then this is the perfect recipe for you!
When I first started making coleslaw and taking it to family dinners, I would use a hand grater, but when my sweet mother-in-law found out, she went right out and bought a small food processor for me. I was overcome with the gift, but her explanation was simple. “This is the best creamy coleslaw recipe I have ever tasted, and if I want it every time you come for dinner, then I need to know it isn’t such a chore for you to make.” Isn’t that sweet? 🙂
Now you know I used that little food processor for a very long time, it was a Cuisinart, I think, and it just gave up the ghost and stopped working a couple of months ago. I used it for everything from delicious flaky pie crust to chopping up my coleslaw veggies.
So I had to go shopping for a new one. After researching the market, the best deal I could find was on Amazon. If you can get one for under $70, then grab it, because that’s a great deal. I looked at these two and chose the Cuisinart based on experience.
So let’s get started and make Your Best Creamy Coleslaw Recipe!
One medium sized head of green cabbage
2-3 small cooking onions
2-3 medium carrots
1 1/2 cups mayonnaise or your favorite salad dressing
This slow cooker pulled pork shoulder recipe is so perfect you can serve it all year long! No need to wait for BBQ season and summer weather! Sounds awesome right?
You can still serve your family and friends the best food ever! And the best part is, it’s so easy, you really do just prep the meat, set the slow cooker, and walk away and HAVE SOME FUN!
This is when you get out the slow cooker, throw in a pork butt or pork shoulder, some water or ginger ale, your own personal spices and let it cook….slowly….until you have pork that melts in your mouth, shreds easily and becomes the best pulled pork sandwich anywhere! Are you with me?
Then let’s make Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Shoulder for your Weekend BBQ!
1 – 3 to 5 lb pork shoulder (depends on the size of your crowd)
Okay so I usually blog about pies, pastry and desserts right? Well, that’s true, but a gal can’t live on pie alone! So this blog is all about BBQ sauce – my homemade BBQ sauce, so easy to do, you must try this! Tangy woodsy smoky flavour that just can’t be beat – and will make your BBQ’s the best ticket in town!
This recipe has been in the family for many years and was always ready for ribs, hamburgers, chicken, pulled pork or anything at all. I can remember some awesome ribs at the cottage! First the ribs would be marinated overnight in the fridge, and the marinade was full of garlic, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar – maybe a beer or two? We would always parboil the ribs first. Mom had a special way of having the butcher cut them as well.
I’ve found that most folks are very passionate about their BBQ Sauce!
Then the BBQ would be lit and once it was ready – trays of delicious racks of ribs would come outside, all dressed in this amazing BBQ sauce. The cottage was a family gathering spot, for birthdays, anniversaries but usually just a hot summer weekend and you really don’t need a reason to cook up a mess a ribs do you?
So please enjoy this Best Homemade BBQ Sauce Recipe, and be surprised by how quickly it becomes your family’s favorite!
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer on med-low for 10 minutes
Let cool and pour into glass jars.
**You can double the recipe which is what I do and it will make two pints.
